Reading Apprenticeship and RATs: Home

This guide is to support RTC's RATs (Reading Apprenticeship Teachers and supporters) in improving student reading comprehension in content-areas with the use of WestEd's Reading Apprenticeship framework. RTC-RATs.org is now being redirected to this site.

Reading Apprenticeship and RATs

Many students struggle with reading - either they don't comprehend what they've read, can't recall the information read, or avoid reading it altogether. WestEd's Reading Apprenticeship® (RA) is a research-based framework for content area literacy instruction. RA is used to empower students to become skilled readers and improve their reading comprehension skills, particularly in content/program-related areas.

Renton Technical College (RTC) first began using RA in July 2008. For more information about RATs (Reading Apprenticeship Teachers and supporters), the RA support group at RTC, click on the above RA & RATs at RTC tab.
