Important Info about Taking GED Tests

This document containts important information from SBCTC about the GED testing fee increase and the upcoming change to computer-based GED tests. 

Students who are prepared should be encouraged to complete the GED prior to the fee increase on 10/01/12.  Student who are studying for the current GED should be encouraged to take tests before 01/01/14.  As of 01/01/14, students who have not completed all five of the GED tests will have to retake all of the tests.

GED - Definition and Use

The GED (General Educational Development) test is a group of tests developed by the American Council on Education.  Passing the following five tests results is considered the equivalent of graduating from high school:

  • Language Arts: Reading
  • Language Arts: Writing
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Social Studies.
