How to use Kanopy and Embed Videos in Canvas

Embedding Kanopy into Canvas

Here’s what you are going to need in order to do this task:  

  • A registered Kanopy account through the RTC Library databases on the RTC Library homepage.  
  • A word processor or somewhere to copy/paste some information. 
  • The guide for embedding a Kanopy video into Canvas found at the RTC Library LibGuides. 
  • The Canvas page, assignment, quiz, or discussion to which you want to add the Kanopy video. 

 

Please note:

  1. Videos embedded into Canvas only work in Firefox.  When in accessed in Chrome, an error message occurs prevents the user from logging into the Library databases. 
  2. To watch Kanopy videos, you first must log into the Library Databases using your RTC email username and password.  Then, you'll need to either sign up for or log into your Kanopy account.
  3. While the videos are embedded in Canvas, the videos cannot be watched in Canvas - the vidoes open in a new tab in the browser to play.

 

Please add the following to your Canvas page so students know how to log into watch the Kanopy video:

 

Note: To watch this Kanopy video, you will need to first log into the Library Databases using your RTC Student email username and password.  Then, you’ll need to either sign up for or log into your Kanopy account.

In the embed code that you copied, paste the above code in between the single quote and the https in the location shown by the red line in the image below.

When students use the Canvas Student App, they will see the following two screens.  First, a log in page for the Library databases.  Then they will be invited to download the free Kanopy app.
