Scholarship Resources: Diversity Scholarships

The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) Program, funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, was established in 1999 to provide outstanding African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American, and Hispanic American students with an opportunity to complete an undergraduate college education in any discipline area of interest.

The Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund aids people active in movements for social and economic justice. These need-based scholarships are awarded to students who are able to do academic work at the college or university level or are enrolled in a trade or technical program and who are active in the progressive movement.

Palmer Scholars is an organization committed to supporting underrepresented Pierce County students of color to overcome financial, cultural, and social barriers in their pursuit of higher education.

POISE Foundation is proud to provide scholarship administration for the National NAACP Scholarship Program. Each year the NAACP, through generous donations, is able to provide scholarships to outstanding students.

UNCF is the nation’s largest private scholarship provider to minority group members. Each year, we award more than $100 million in scholarships to students attending more than 1,100 schools across the country, including our prestigious network of 37 HBCUs.

Scholarship awards range from one-time $2,500 awards to multi-year $20,000 awards. APIA Scholars provides scholarships to underserved APIA students

Established in 1921, the vision of the Japanese American Citizens League is to be one of the nation’s preeminent organizations in the United States in the areas of multi-ethnic and multi-cultural understanding and civil and human rights.

This is a $5000 scholarship for students who are residents of the Pacific Rim states (Alaska, California, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington) who demonstrate hard work, dedication and sincerity. Students must have financial need and be of Japanese or other Asian ancestry, including multi-ethnic Asians. This program is for students pursuing a vocational or trade degree or certification (e.g. auto mechanics, carpentry, nursing, plumbing, electrician, manufacturing, HVAC, etc.).

Awards are based on merit; amounts range from $500 to $5,000, based on relative need, among the Scholars selected.

Scholarship for Hispanic/Latinx students.

Scholarship to provide aid to Latinx/Hispanic students to pursue STEM fields.

Scholarships for Native American students pursuing higher education in Natural Resources

The American Indian College Fund provides about 6,000 scholarships for American Indian (or descendant) graduate and undergraduate students each year.

The Nez Perce Trail Foundation continues to offer scholarships to Native Americans each year. Details and requirements can be found on the application for each year in the spring.

The Indian Health Service Scholarship provides full tuition and fees, books, uniforms, equipment, travel, insurance, national board exams, travel for clinical training, and a stipend for students majoring in health professions, engineering, and accounting.

Pride Foundation provides essential financial resources and community support to inspirational LGBTQ+ and allied student leaders across the Northwest.

Applicant must be Trans, Non-Binary, Agender, Two-Spirit, Genderfluid, Gender-Diverse, Intersex, or Gender Non-Conforming and either already attending or signed up for classes as a College Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior, Master’s Level-Study, Doctoral Level-Study, or in Vocational school to apply. Applicant must either live in WA State during Fall Quarter, or attend a program located in WA State. Program can be attended remotely.

AFAS education support and tuition assistance is available to dependent sons and daughters of active duty, Title 10 Reservists on extended active duty, Title 32 Guard performing full-time active duty, retired, retired Reserve and deceased Air Force members, as well as spouses of active duty and Title 10 Reservists, and widows/widowers.

The Foundation manages the Army Women’s Foundation Legacy Scholarship Program which provides scholarships to women soldiers, past and present, and their lineal descendants to help them attain their educational goals. The Legacy Scholarship Program offers financial support in four areas: Certificate programs, Community College coursework, Undergraduate Degrees, and Graduate Degrees
